Basic sound
The didjerido is a lip-vibrated instrument, much like the trumpet or the forest horn. The lips vibration modified trough the hole of the instrument to create the magical sound. The right sound to create is a deep, drone, low tone.
Put your lips gently on the didjerido mouthpiece and blow air while keeping your lips loose as possible. Blow air as long as you can, using your cheeks. Remember to keep your lips loose (don't try to force the sound out, it will come eventually. Remember to be gentle!).
Don't forget. The basic rules in music, as in many things in life, are patience, gentleness and diligence.
Some basic affects you can try after making your first sound is talking trough the instrument. Try vocalizing the word "didjerido", and other words like "giri-diri", "doy-ti-doy". Pronounce those words in a constant rhythm.
Playing the didjerido correctly shouldn't take much air. Lungs full of air should last up to about 15 to 30 second. If not, you exhale too much air. Practice till you get to a point that you can play for 15 to 30 second or more (some didjerido players I know can go up to minute or two!)
